The first thing to think about is whether you want the dog cage in the car in the boot or on a seat. For smaller dogs, it's fine to have a cage that you place on a seat, secured with a seatbelt. The advantage of this is that you have better supervision of the dog and the cage is easy to remove when not in use. The disadvantage is that it removes a seat for people and is only suitable for smaller dogs.
